I was shocked today when a man wanted to try on a dress and the shop workers didn’t allow it because management doesn’t allow it.
It made me sad that he was discriminated against because of his sexuality and it went against the human rights act. I didn’t buy any clothes because I thought their hostility towards the LGBT community was not right.
This little Op Shop deserves accolades for clean, interesting and well presented stock, friendly service from volunteers and fair pricing.. The silent auctions, held occasionally, of more valuable items provide a great opportunity for collectors to offer what they can afford and often the thrill of winning the auction.. Keep a look out for these auctions which are advertised in the shop window and on the counter. I love what the shop stands for and supports – bird rescue facilities around the country! The shop Manager and volunteers are awesome and to be applauded!!
The man continually tried on women’s clothing in the cubicle making strange noises as he did so.
He never bought anything and was embarrassing to other shoppers .
He was not discriminated against because of his sexuality but because of his anti social behavior.
Wild Wings Op Shop is one of a kind. A small premises with a big heart where volunteers offer quality clothing at bargain prices to raise funds for wild bird care all over NZ.
In 6 years the shop has gathered a large following of people who value the cause and welcoming attitude of shop volunteers. It has become a community hub for regulars.
An overheard comment taken offensively without knowing the background history is a mistake.
