This is just to let people know so they don’t end up in a bind at the last minute like I did. Firstly let me say I love the Salvation Army. My entire family has served as volunteers for them for generations. I believe they do wonderful work. I have donated many items to the Salvation Army over the years a lot of it new or barely used. As long as I was able to drop it off at a collection centre they have taken most anything I donate. How ever if You are donating large ticket items such as furniture or appliances they may pick and choose and not take everything. Had I realised this I would have sold the items on trade me and made a cash donation instead. Having the Sallies pick it up and carry it off seemed easier than selling it myself plus I was strapped for time. It was my last day in a rental property and I was getting rid of most of my furniture and a 3 year old refrigerator. Everything was in fair to excellent condition. The refrigerator looked new. When they came to pickup the donation they took bits and pieces and at first refused the refrigerator stating it was too old. I managed to convince them it was only 3 years old and they did take it. However they only took part of a bedroom suit and part of an outdoor furniture set leaving odd pieces making it difficult to donate to anyone else. It was also my last day in the apartment so I didn’t have time to make other arrangements. I was charged by the landlord to have the rest of the things removed. Would I donate to the Sallies again? Yes, as I have done so for years, but I would not donate something that had to be removed that day as they left me in a real bind. This is just to let others know so they don’t end up in a fix like I did. Keep donating and volunteering but beware they may or may not accept your donations.
